The Islamic Center of UConn (ICUC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving UConn and surrounding Muslim communities. Our space provides prayer areas, dining spaces, and shared/quiet study areas. More than just a building, ICUC is a blessing: it provides a welcoming environment for Muslim community to come together, participate in several Islamic/social activities, and observe daily congregational prayers.

  • Muslims believe in six pillars of faith (Iman):

  • These are the core practices of Islam:

    1. Shahada — declaration of faith

    2. Salah — five daily prayers

    3. Zakat — charitable giving

    4. Sawm — fasting during Ramadan

    5. Hajj — pilgrimage to Mecca

  • Friday's prayers starts at 1:15pm and ends around 2:00pm all year round.

  • The center welcomes all visitors. The first floor is a dining/meeting area with some accessible prayer options. The prayer hall is located on the second floor.


    It is customary that we remove our shoes and sit on the carpeted floor in the prayer hall. Chairs are available for those with special needs.


    When you visit the prayer area, please pay attention to the following:

    Cell Phones
    Please turn off cell phones and pagers when in the prayer hall.

    Shoes
    Please place shoes on the racks. 

    Silence during Friday's Khutbah. 
    Please refrain from talking or engaging in any distracting behavior during the Khutbah.

    All visitors - men & women:
    Clothing should be modest. It is customary for women to wear a head covering during the prayer.

    Parents with small children
    Please ensure children do not disrupt the prayer service.  Feel free to take them to the lower level.

    Parking
    Parking is limited with ICUC permits. Please don't block any cars/exits. Your car (extensive parking duration) may be towed at your own expense otherwise.

    No food or drink allowed in the prayer hall.

    When dining at the center, please clean up after yourself.
